A computer virus. T’was a mean bastard. It hijacked Hijack This for fucks sake.

One would think that a Nigerian Prince who won the UK lottery, sent me a .exe file and I opened it.

I wish I could have done a screen cap of the brutality that it was subjecting my computer to. Ever see the rape scene in Irreversible? It was like that.

I wanna meet the creator of this gem and shake his hand.

But it’s all fixed. I’m running Windows 7 RC for now. What a night.

Here’s the thing. Though viruses exist. They don’t pose the same threat they once did. Many companies and especially the media would like you to think they do, but so long as you are educated on how they work, and have a little common sense. I don’t run anti virus on my machine. Haven’t it years. It’s really not a big deal. The one I got last night was the first once I’d snagged in a good few years.

Yeah, I had the same problem.

In a nutshell, if you have any bootable files on the other disc, it will be classified as active, and your multiple hard drives will be bickering about who gets to be C:\.

Of course, if you’re already booted into Windows 7, then you will probably not be seeing the other drive.

So. How do we get it to show up in My Computer?

Head on over to:
Control Panel -> Computer Management -> Disk Management (In Storage)

You should see your IDE drive now. If you don’t see it. Then you have bigger (albeit easy to fix) problems.

Right click on your IDE partition.
Select ‘Change Drive Letter and Paths’.
Click Add.
Verify that radio button: ‘Assign the following drive letter:’ is selected.
Pick a drive letter.
???
Profit.

Enjoy.

Security+

On July - 16 - 2009

It’s been a lot of fun sitting Jared’s Security+ class this week.

I thought I had the l33t skillz. But I’m finding my tricks are old.

However, I’m learning a pretty good chunk of new things. SQL injection, XSS, ARP Poisoning, Sniffing, etc. etc.

I’ll probably spent the next little while applying what I’ve learned.
